Obituary
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher
fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.
Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Panadol, sun lotion or a Band-Aid to a student but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant or wanted to have an abortion.
Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims.
Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, Someone Else is to Blame, and I'm A Victim.
Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Dear friends - those I know and those I don't.
Last summer, I gave a presentation about the work happening here. Many of you attended, and gave extremely generously, and have continued to do so in various ways, e.g. selling and buying cakes, sending books, praying for me and more - thus enabling me to return to and stay here. Firstly, I want to thank you so much for your generosity in all these areas. I don't know how to express my appreciation properly! Secondly, I wanted to write to you personally and tell you that next month, we will be officially opening our new skills development centre. Some of you may remember me talking last year about the sweatshop girls, and the desire I had to see them coming out of the labour and sex trades, and to see them developing practical vocational and life skills. Well, I am so excited to say that this will be starting next month and our initial programme at the school will be aimed at girls just like this. It's taken a lot of work and adjustment, but it's all worth it! Many of the girls attending are not Christians and our biggest prayer is that we will be able to reach all the girls with the love of God, and that we can offer them the chance of eternal life which obviously is worth so much more than practical skills. I will be teaching there as part of the team, and I look forward to sharing with you all the things that happen there.
All this is enabled by the prayers and support of people like you. I really hope you can feel a part of what is happening here because you are an integral part of it. The managers also wanted me to send on their thanks to you as the church congregation - both individuals and as a whole - is one of the main supporters of this project.
I pray His richest blessings on all of you, and look forward to seeing you next year.
Again, thank you.
Jools
VISION FOR INCREASE E.C.F. 2006
Tasks and ministries that we need to see fulfilled by volunteers…
Last week Pastor Giles asked for volunteers who could give just an occasional hour of their time. Thank you to those of you who have agreed to do so. This is a follow- up message giving more specifics:
Firstly we really appreciate all of you who are already working really hard for Jesus in this church body. There are many of you. However as our vision is for increase what we really need in practical areas are teams with a leader to take responsibility, and do things, in consultation with Barbara or the pastors, without being asked every time we see something needs doing.
Practically, some things are already in hand, and many of our men Led by folks like Keith do great work, but there is scope for so much more.
It is so encouraging when people see a need and want to fill it. Recently someone asked why we had no report of ECF services in the paper as other churches do and we said because nobody has time to do it. Praise the Lord they are now doing it!
In the last few weeks Pastor Tony has saved the church about £1000 by using his skills to upholster the red chairs in the hall which were worn out, but it would have been even more wonderful we had been able to find someone else to do it!
We need a cleaning team, a maintenance team, a catering team, Christmas team, etc etc
When we are looking for expansion the difficulty is always WHO rather than WHAT. We all know what!
Many things that need doing are simple tasks others are skilled or need a skilled leader:
Window cleaning
Replacement of light bulbs and fixtures
Garden weeded and pruned and planted regularly/pots tended
Decorating
Occasional cleaning duties
Flower arranging
Designing and putting up Christmas decorations/the crib/ lights etc
Bookshop staff
Extending the shop with a café
Catering
Rubbish cleared up outside
Office staff / I.T. skills
Create Bookshop web-site
Collating info to send to weekly update present ECF web-site
Carpentry/mending things
Internal building works
Locking and unlocking for clients who hire building
Magazine staff who encourage and collect articles for the editor Joseph Solomon
Testimony writing to make a book for giving to unsaved friends
A qualified electrician who will check appliance safety (URGENT NEED)
Toy and equipment washing/spring cleaning
Cupboard cleaning and tidying areas and cupboards
Replacement of the cream auditorium chair seats
Children’s workers for Sundays
Youth workers
Pregnancy Crisis centre volunteers
“Garage” (youth drop in) workers
Fund raising activities for the projects
Annual stock- taking in the shop
More ushers and Sunday Morning Car park attendant
Whatever else you have noticed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
